Transportation Planning in Chatham County is guided by federal legislation that requires states to carry out a Continuing, Cooperative, and Comprehensive statewide, multimodal, transportation planning process. 

A variety of plans, reports, and studies, are developed in cooperation with the following Metropolitan Planning Organizations and Rural Planning Organization:

Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO)

Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization (TWTPO)

Central Pines Rural Planning Organization (CPRPO)

Serving communities in Chatham, Lee, Moore, and Orange Counties. The website for CPRPO can be found here (CPRPO).

Participation and contribution with the Metropolitan Planning and Rural Planning Organizations act as a regional framework for connectivity for local governments and NCDOT.
