The Heart of Chatham Award
Employees are the heartbeat of our organization. The Heart of Chatham Award recognizes employees whose exceptional service makes a meaningful difference for residents, visitors, coworkers, and our community. Nomination may be submitted by County employees or members of the public. Employees may be recognized for actions that go above and beyond normal expectations, demonstrate outstanding initiative, or make a significant positive impact on a customer’s experience.
When submitting a nomination, please provide specific details about the employee's actions and the impact they had. Nominations are reviewed based on factors such as impact, initiative, and service quality.

Nomination Guidelines
Please include as much detail as possible in your nomination form.
To be considered, nominations should include:
- A specific example or situation
- The actions taken by the employee
- The impact or outcome of those actions
- Whether the employee demonstrated initiative or went beyond normal job expectations
What We Look For
As you prepare your nomination, ask yourself:
"What made this service stand out from what is normally expected?"
Strong nominations typically demonstrate:
- Impact – Did the employee make a meaningful difference for a customer or coworker?
- Initiative – Did the employee go beyond normal job expectations?
- Service Quality – Did the employee demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and effective communication?
Examples:
High-Impact Example:
"They stayed after hours to help a resident complete an application, coordinated with another department, and followed up the next day to ensure the issue was resolved."
Limited-Detail Example:
"They are always helpful and nice."
Please Note: Nominations are reviewed based on the level of detail provided and the demonstrated impact of the employee's actions. Nominations that are overly general or lack specific examples may not be considered.
