Property Tax Search

Each year on July 1, the Chatham County Board of County Commissioners adopt the budget and establish new tax rates. A similar process is completed for Siler City, Pittsboro, Goldston, The Town of Cary, Apex, and each fire district in the county. Incorporated municipalities within the county establish their own tax rate. Once the tax rates are established, taxpayers receive a combined tax bill using the tax rate for the county plus the tax rate for the district in which you live.

Each county agency or department submits an annual operating budget to the County Manager. The County Manager's Office uses this information, along with the budget priorities of the Board of County Commissioners, to develop a proposed county budget.  The Board of County Commissioners reviews the proposed budget and conducts a series of meetings and hearings on the budget. Citizens are encouraged to attend the public hearings to provide input in the budget process.  Citizens also serve on panels that make recommendations on nonprofits that will receive county grants.

While this process seems simple, it is not. Many hours are spent analyzing departmental budgets and county programs to achieve a budget that will provide the most cost-efficient services to the citizens of Chatham County.
