My mailing address is incorrect, how can I get it changed?

Once that has been done, the Tax Office can transfer the property to reflect the change as long as the requirements in the Machinery Act of the NC General Statutes have been met.

Deceased Spouse - My spouse passed away, how can I get their name removed from the tax records?

- A copy of the death certificate is needed if the spouse passed away outside of Chatham County. The death certificate is usually recorded at the Register of Deeds in the county where the deceased passed.
Deceased Owner - Submit a request to change tax listing. Submission of this form does not mean all qualifications have been met to transfer the real property tax listing nor does it automatically change the ownership of the property. When are tax bills mailed? When are they due?
- Property tax bills are mailed in August. Taxes are due September 1 and become delinquent after January 5 of the following year.
I sold my real property this year. Why did I receive the tax bill?
- North Carolina General Statutes require that the tax bill be sent to the January 1 owner of record. Please forward the tax bill to the new owners as they are responsible for payment. We strive to mail tax bills to the current owner of record if the deed is recorded before the tax bill cutoff date.
I own property with others, why can’t we all get a copy of the tax bill?
- Only one tax bill is generated and mailed for each property in Chatham County. This is regulated by the North Carolina General Statutes
