For all recycling programs it is important for people to make sure they are recycling the correct items. Recycling can be difficult to understand, partially because the rules can be different depending on who provides the service. Chatham County Solid Waste & Recycling is working with the towns and private haulers to make recycling easier for all residents.
Recycle Right is an educational campaign to help residents better understand how to recycle. Solid Waste & Recycling operates the 12 Collection Centers that residents with a current decal can use. Curbside services are provided by private haulers or the towns.
The following programs are participating in the Recycle Right campaign. Those with a private hauler, can also visit their website to learn more details about their programs.

When in doubt, throw it out! If you are not 100% sure an item can be recycled, do not include it. Hold onto it until you can find the answer or throw it away.
Recyclables need to go in the bins or carts loose. If you put your recyclables in a bag or box, empty the bag or box into the recycling bin.
The above categories lists the most common items that can and cannot be recycled. Looking for a different item? Visit our online disposal guide for details on how to dispose of these and many other items.
