In North Carolina, pool remodels (major shell/deck/hydraulic changes) require local Health Department plan review and permits, similar to new pools, with submitted plans by a registered professional, including equipment specs, site plans and PDSC/VGB forms for each pumping system.
- Definition of Remodel: Any renovation disrupting the majority of the shell/deck, changing the profile, or altering the hydraulic system triggers full review.
- Local Plan Submission: Submit detailed plans before starting the work.
- Professional Design: Plans for public pools must be by a registered architect or engineer (NC licensed).
Pool Remodel applications must be submitted through the Environmental Health Open Gov Portal.
