Who Can Register
- Be a U.S. citizen (no citizenship documents required)
- Be at least 18 years old by the next general election
- Live in Chatham County for at least 30 days before the election
- Not be serving a felony sentence (voting rights are restored after sentence completion)
Inactive voters are still registered. You may be asked to confirm your address at the polls.
How to Register
Registration Deadline: You must register at least 25 days before Election Day.
Ways to Register
- Online: Register via the DMV website (must have DMV record)
- By Mail: Download and mail a completed form:
- In Person: Visit the Chatham County Board of Elections Office
Updating Your Registration
- Moved within or outside Chatham County
- Changed your name
- Changed your party affiliation

Choosing a Party Affiliation
You may register with a recognized political party or as Unaffiliated.
Your party choice determines your primary ballot. Changes must be made by the registration deadline.
Same-Day Registration
If you missed the deadline, register and vote at the same time during Early Voting.
- Live in Chatham County for at least 30 days before Election Day
- Complete a voter registration form at the early voting site
- Show proof of address (utility bill, government doc, or valid ID)
