Note: A general election, also known as a midterm election in even-numbered years between presidential elections, is held to determine the final winners for federal, state, and local offices. In this election, voters are not restricted by party affiliation and may vote for any candidate listed on the ballot, regardless of political party.
The ballot may include candidates from multiple parties, as well as unaffiliated candidates, for offices such as U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, state legislature, judicial seats, county offices, and other local positions.

To appear on the general election ballot in North Carolina, candidates must have qualified through the primary election, been nominated by their political party, or met the requirements to run as an unaffiliated or write-in candidate. Unaffiliated candidates must submit a petition with a required number of valid signatures.
For the 2026 General Election, all candidate qualifications and ballot access requirements must be completed according to the deadlines set by the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
