The reporting schedule for a committee depends on the type of committee and whether it is actively involved in an election year.

Initial campaign finance paperwork to organize a committee must be filed within 10 days of an individual becoming a “candidate” for campaign finance purposes.

Any treasurer who signs campaign finance reports is required by law to complete treasurer training provided by the State Board of Elections. This training must be completed within three months of appointment and once every four years thereafter. Training is offered both in person and online.

Campaign finance laws now require certain committees to file campaign finance reports electronically. This includes candidates for local offices if the cumulative total for the election cycle exceeds $10,000 in contributions, expenditures, or loans. The free software provided by the State can be used to file electronically and perform many of the required calculations.
