Chatham County Board of Commissioners Adopts 2026-2031 Master Aging Plan and Supports Age-Friendly Community Designation
PITTSBORO, NC — The Chatham County Board of Commissioners adopted the 2026-2031 Chatham County Master Aging Plan at its August 17, 2026, meeting. The Board also adopted a resolution and letter recognizing support for the designation of Chatham County as an AARP Age-Friendly Community.
Chatham County’s aging population continues to grow. In response to this growth, the County’s acquisition of the Council on Aging, and the desire to be designated as an AARP Age-Friendly Community, the County Manager’s Office and Aging Services conducted an extensive public engagement and planning process to develop the Master Aging Plan.
The plan provides a coordinated framework to guide the County’s efforts to support aging residents and address their current and future needs. It establishes priorities and strategies for 2026-2031 and will help coordinate efforts across County services and programs that support older adults.
The County’s support for the AARP Age-Friendly Community designation reflects its commitment to creating a community where residents can age with dignity, remain connected, and have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
“As Chatham County’s older adult population grows, we have an opportunity to be thoughtful and proactive in how we plan for the future,” said Amanda Robertson, Chatham County Board of Commissioners Chair. “The Master Aging Plan gives us a clear roadmap for working together with County services, community organizations, and residents to ensure that the needs of our growing older adult population are understood and addressed. Supporting the AARP Age-Friendly Community designation is another important step toward making Chatham County an even more welcoming and supportive place to age.”
Progress on the Master Aging Plan will be shared with the Board of Commissioners. Residents can find more information about the 2026-2031 Chatham County Master Aging Plan through Chatham County Aging Services. Progress on the plan can also be tracked through the Chatham County Information Hub.
