Chatham Community Library to Host Virtual Screening of Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

PITTSBORO, NC—Chatham Community Library invites residents to enjoy a free virtual screening of the award-winning documentary Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (2014). The film explores the growing crisis of plastic pollution in our oceans through the story of Midway Atoll, one of the most remote places on Earth that has become a collection point for marine debris. The program is free and open to the public.

Journalist and filmmaker Angela Sun embarks on a personal journey to investigate the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, meeting scientists, researchers, advocates, and volunteers who reveal the far-reaching impacts of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems and wildlife. Filmed at Midway Atoll, the documentary highlights one of the world's most pressing environmental challenges while encouraging viewers to consider solutions to reduce plastic waste.

Plastic Paradise has received numerous awards, including:

• 2014 Best Documentary Feature – Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival
• 2014 Grand Jury Award – Wild and Scenic Film Festival
• 2014 Best Educational Film – Blue Ocean Film Festival
• 2015 Best Cinematography – Global Inheritance Awards
