CHATHAM COUNTY, NC — The Chatham County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department received Esri’s Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award during the 2026 Esri User Conference in San Diego, California. The award honors organizations worldwide for exceptional innovation and leadership in using GIS technology.
Chatham County was honored for its implementation of ArcGIS Indoors for IT Asset Management, which transformed the way County facilities are managed. The project included indoor mapping of 11 County buildings, supported room reservations and employee workspaces, tracked critical safety equipment such as AEDs and fire extinguishers, and incorporated drone-generated 3D models to improve facility management. Chatham County also became an Esri reference site, hosting customer visits and sharing its expertise with organizations across the country.
