Chatham County Board of Commissioners Appoints Mike Roberson to Serve as Interim District 3 Commissioner

PITTSBORO, NC— On June 15, 2026, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners appointed Mike Roberson to fill the interim District 3 seat vacated by David Delaney on May 21, 2026. Roberson’s appointment will be effective July 16, 2026.

Roberson has served as Chatham County Sheriff since May 2016 and will continue in that role until July 15th. Earlier this year, Roberson won the Democratic primary for the District 3 seat and will appear unopposed on the November general election ballot.

Roberson brings nearly four decades of public service experience to the Board. Prior to serving as Chatham County Sheriff, Roberson served the people of Chatham County and North Carolina as a paramedic, firefighter, emergency management professional, law enforcement officer, and jail administrator.

Roberson will be sworn in before July 21st.
