PITTSBORO, N.C. — Aquatic weeds and algae can negatively impact pond health, recreation, livestock watering, and overall pond management. To help pond owners and land managers address these challenges, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Chatham County Center, will host a Pond Weed Identification and Management Workshop on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The workshop will provide practical information on identifying common aquatic weeds and algae, evaluating management options, and implementing effective control strategies. Participants will gain tools and knowledge to improve the health, appearance, and usability of their ponds.

This program is designed for pond owners, farmers, landowners, lake and pond managers, homeowner association representatives, grounds managers, pesticide applicators, and anyone interested in improving the health and usability of ponds and managing aquatic vegetation effectively.

During this program participants can learn how to identify common aquatic weeds and algae, assess treatment options, and develop effective management strategies for ponds and other water resources. Participants seeking pesticide recertification may also earn 2 hours of A, N, D, and X pesticide credit.
