Chatham Community Library Announces Free Computer Classes

PITTSBORO, NC— Chatham Community Library is excited to announce in-person computer classes in May and June. Classes are free and open to the public and are held at Chatham Community Library located at 197 NC Hwy 87 N., Pittsboro, 27312. Registration is required except for drop-in sessions. Class descriptions and registration links can be found at www.chathamcountync.gov/ComputerClasses.

Computer Classes at Chatham Community LibraryDrop-in Computer & Tech Assistance
Thursdays, May 14 and June 18, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Community members may visit the computer lab for one-on-one help with computer and technology questions. No registration is required.

Employment Assistance with NCWorks
Wednesday, May 20, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
NCWorks staff will discuss the free services NCWorks Career Centers offer at over 70 locations throughout the state. Participants will then meet one-on-one with NCWorks staff to get help searching for jobs, researching employers, completing applications, creating résumés and cover letters, and practicing interview skills. Participants should come prepared with questions and bring necessary documents or files to the session.

Computer Basics, Part 1
Thursday, May 28, 3:00 p.m.
This class is designed for beginners. Participants will learn how to use a mouse and keyboard, identify parts of the computer, and understand the basics of how computers work.

Intro to Genealogy
Tuesday, June 2, 2:00 p.m.
This introductory class is perfect for those who are interested in researching their family history but are not sure where to start. Attendees will learn about best practices for genealogy research, pedigree charts and family group sheets, the role of DNA testing, using Ancestry Library Edition, resources available at the library, and more.

Computer Basics, Part 2
Thursday, June 4, 3:00 p.m.
Participants will build on the concepts learned in Computer Basics, Part 1. Topics include file organization, basic computer maintenance and troubleshooting, and more. Participants should have prior basic computer experience.
