Stories in Blue: A Community Indigo Project with Dr. Deena ClassWHERE: Chatham Arts Center
964 East Street in Pittsboro, NC 27312

WHO: Deena Class, PhD is a botanical artist, farmer, and educator. With support from the Chatham Arts Council, Dr. Class is leading Stories in Blue: A Community Indigo Project: https://www.chathamartscouncil.org/stories-in-indigo.

Dr. Class recently offered a free community indigo dyeing event on her Pittsboro farm as well as several dyeing sessions with Chatham County Schools students. Each person dyed one square to take home and one that will be included in a community quilt.

At the Arts Center sewing sessions, participants will stitch dyed blocks together. No sewing experience is necessary. Through the quilt and the stories participants share, the project will carry forward the idea that indigo belongs to everyone. It will honor indigo not only as a color or craft, but also as a living thread that runs through generations and across cultures, continents, and communities.

The finished work will be revealed in late May and showcased in venues across the county by the Chatham Arts Council.
