Chatham County to Participate in We Are Counties Educational Campaign

Post Date:04/01/2026 9:15 AM

CHATHAM COUNTY, NC— As part of County Government Awareness Month in April, Chatham County is excited to announce its participation in an educational campaign called We Are Counties, a nationwide effort led by the National Association of Counties (NACo). The campaign exists to clearly and consistently show what counties do for over 300 million Americans every day, and why it matters.

#WeAreCountiesAcross the nation, there are 3,069 counties, parishes and boroughs, each serving its own community while sharing a common mission of public service. Together, counties form a nationwide system that supports residents wherever they live, work, or travel. This shared responsibility is at the heart of the We Are Counties campaign, focusing on building understanding among residents and policymakers about the essential role counties play in every day American life.

Chatham County aims to participate in this campaign by highlighting its services, programs, and work; public events; and the more than 650 Chatham County employees who work behind the scenes everyday to make a difference in the community.

“Chatham County government is part of people’s everyday lives—whether it’s protecting public health, providing access to libraries, preserving vital records, or creating spaces for recreation and connection,” said Chatham County Manager Bryan Thompson. “Through this campaign, we’re helping residents better understand the many ways Chatham County supports them and creates opportunities for individuals, families, and businesses to thrive.”
