Chatham County Announces Promotion of Carolyn Miller to Deputy County Manager

CHATHAM COUNTY, NC— Chatham County is pleased to announce that Assistant County Manager Carolyn Miller has been promoted to the role of Deputy County Manager for Chatham County.

CAROLYN MILLERMiller has been an invaluable member of the Chatham County organization for more than 29 years. Her leadership, dedication, and institutional knowledge have made a lasting impact on the County. Over the past five years, she has been a key member of the County’s management team and a trusted partner in advancing organizational goals.

“Carolyn’s commitment to public service, her steady leadership, and her deep understanding of our organization make her uniquely qualified for this role,” said Chatham County Manager Bryan Thompson. “She has played a critical part in shaping our organizational culture and strengthening our leadership capacity, and I am confident she will continue to be an outstanding leader for Chatham County in her new role as Deputy County Manager.”
Miller began her service with Chatham County in 1996 as an Administrative Support Specialist. She went on to serve as Purchasing Agent, Human Resources Manager/Director, and, since 2021, Assistant County Manager. As director of the County’s internal Leadership Academy, Miller has also played a pivotal role in developing emerging leaders and advancing Chatham County’s commitment to organizational excellence. These roles have provided her with extensive experience across county operations and a comprehensive understanding of the needs of both employees and the community.

In her new role as Deputy County Manager, Carolyn will continue overseeing the departments currently under her leadership, including Human Resources; Aging Services; Intergovernmental Relations; EEO & Community Engagement; Convention & Visitors Bureau; Agriculture and Conference Center; Library;

Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources; Paralegal Services; and the Public Information Office. She will also expand her responsibilities to support countywide initiatives and strategic priorities.
