Invitation to Join in 250 Days of “Chatham Celebrates America 250”
CHATHAM COUNTY, NC— All Chatham County residents, friends, and families are invited to participate in 250 Days of “Chatham Celebrates America 250.” Next year, the nation kicks off a multi-year celebration for America 250, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Each state and county will honor the milestone differently, with a foundation of looking back, learning in the moment, and marking the significance of that time in history with activities and events.
“Chatham Celebrates America 250” is a 250-day countywide celebration that kicked off on October 25, 2025, at the Pittsboro Rotary Street Fair and runs through July 4, 2026. A variety of small-scale events are currently in development, and plans are underway to weave America 250 themes into many of Chatham County’s existing celebrations. The culmination of the celebration will be a fun-filled event at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center on June 27, 2026.
America 250 NC is North Carolina’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of this state in the development of the United States. The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is the statewide entity charged by Governor Cooper with the leadership of the commemoration for North Carolina. The heart of the America 250 NC commemoration lies within the county committees. These committees are dedicated to planning and organizing events, projects, and initiatives at the county level.
On May 6, 2024, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution forming the official America 250 NC County Committee for Chatham. The County Committee applied for and received a $10,000 grant from America 250 NC to support strategic planning and the development of marketing and promotional materials in preparation for the kickoff of “Chatham Celebrates America 250.” The Chatham County Committee is deeply grateful for America 250 NC’s support.
