PITTSBORO, NC— The Chatham County Fire Marshal is investigating an explosion that occurred on October 2, 2025, at the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival.

According to Fire Marshal Billy Judson, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a propane gas leak caused an explosion inside a food truck.

The fire was isolated to the food truck, and two workers inside were injured. Those individuals were taken to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hil. Their conditions are unknown at this time. 

Judson credited the Shakori Hills staff for acting quickly to grab fire extinguishers before emergency personnel arrived. Judson would like to thank the North Chatham Fire Department, Silk Hope Fire Department, Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsboro Fire Department, and FirstHealth EMS for responding to this incident and for their collaboration. 

The festival is continuing as planned.
