Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross. Donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with type O blood.

Each donation can make a significant impact and ensure patients receive the care they deserve. Patients need blood for a variety of reasons including individuals who have experienced trauma, people fighting cancer, and those with chronic illnesses like sickle cell disease.

To schedule a donation, individuals may download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), or go to RedCrossBlood.org and put in Siler City's zip code 27344.

Residents may visit the libraries’ website www.chathamlibraries.org, or contact the library at (919) 742-2016 for more information on this and other events and programs.
