Free "Computer Skills for Job Seekers" Classes and Laptops for Chatham County Residents.

PITTSBORO, NC — As part of a digital equity initiative made possible through a North Carolina state grant awarded to the Central Pines Regional Council (CPRC), Chatham County residents have the opportunity to receive free job-readiness computer training and a refurbished laptop through upcoming “Computer Skills for Job Seekers” classes

Screenshot 2025-06-06 082821These free, four-hour classes will be held at the following locations and times:

-June 28 – Chatham Community Library (Holmes Family Meeting Room), 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

-July 17 – Goldston Public Library (E.M. Harris, Jr. Conference Room), 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

-August 16 – Wren Memorial Library (Meeting Room), 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

This program is open to adult Chatham County residents with basic computer skills and is designed for those seeking employment or career advancement. It will be offered in English, with additional sessions added based on community demand. Topics include editing resumes and cover letters, managing files for job applications, professional email communication, LinkedIn basics, key Windows features (files, apps, updates, virus protection), and everyday computer skills. The program also covers online security, avoiding job scams, and more.

Each participant will receive:

-Four hours of hands-on training tailored for job seekers

-A free refurbished Windows 11 laptop

-90 days of technical support from the Kramden Institute

-Access to further affordable tech support options

This effort is part of a broader digital inclusion initiative that will bring 34 free computer classes to Chatham County through 2025. The program aims to close the digital divide and increase employment opportunities by improving access to technology and digital skills.
