PITTSBORO, NC— Chatham Community Library will host author Eddie Huffman as he discusses his book, Doc Watson: A Life in Music. Musical guest Riley Baugus will perform and discuss his relationship with Watson during the final years of the guitar legend’s life. This program is free and open to the public.

WHO:
• Arthel “Doc” Watson (1923-2012) is one of the most influential musicians North Carolina has ever produced. Despite growing up blind on a subsistence farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains during the Great Depression, he achieved international fame thanks to his singing, range of material, and, most of all, his pioneering guitar playing.
• Eddie Huffman is the author of multiple books and has worked as a newspaper reporter, music journalist, freelance writer, editor, and photographer, as well as directed music videos and contributed to many publications, including Rolling Stone, and the New York Times.
• Riley Baugus, a veteran old-time musician, music teacher, and instrument maker, was inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame in March 2025. He performed on the soundtrack of the movie Cold Mountain and has recorded with Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, and Willie Nelson.
A limited number of free copies of Huffman’s book are available on a first come, first served basis courtesy of NC Reads, the statewide book club of the North Carolina Humanities.
