Meeting Schedule

The Board of Commissioners meets on the third Monday of each month and sometimes on the first Monday as needed. Additional meetings may be scheduled or moved due to holidays or special circumstances.

Meeting Times & Locations

Regular Meetings: 6:00 PM, in the Historic Courthouse Courtroom in Pittsboro- 17 Sanford Road, Pittsboro.
Work Sessions: Held before regular meetings, usually at 2:00 PM.

Public Comment

The Public Comment period is for issues not on the agenda or part of a public hearing. Sign up is required before the meeting.

Public Comment periods held pursuant to G.S. 153A-52.1 shall be conducted as follows:

The Board of Commissioners will hold a 30-minute session for public comment session during each work session and regular meeting.
During this session the Board of Commissioners will hear comments from the public on any subject concerning county business.
Speakers will be limited to three minutes and are encouraged to sign up in advance. Alternatively, speakers can send in their comments in writing.
Individuals who sign up to speak, but who cannot because of time constraints, will be carried to the next meeting day and given priority.
A member of the public wishing to speak will be recognized by the Chair or called on by the Clerk.
Speakers must state their name for the record.
The Clerk to the Board may serve as the official timekeeper.
Large groups of residents may be asked to designate representatives of their group.

Public Hearings

Public hearings are required by law for certain items. For General public hearings, speakers shall adhere to the following guidelines:

During the public hearing the Board of Commissioners will hear comments from the public on the subject which the hearing was called.
Speakers will be limited to two minutes and must sign up in advance. Alternatively, speakers can send in their comments in writing.
A member of the public wishing to speak will be recognized by the Chair or called on by the Clerk.
Speakers must state their name and address for the record.
The Clerk to the Board may serve as the official timekeeper.
Large groups of residents may be asked to designate representatives of their group.

For Planning Board Public Hearings, following the applicant’s presentation, members of the public may speak in support of or in opposition to the application.

Speakers shall identify themselves prior to addressing the Board of Commissioners.
Each speaker shall be limited to not more than two minutes.
Speakers may not yield any portion of their allotted time to others.
Speakers may also provide written copies of their presentation to the Clerk to the Board who shall make such copies available to each member of the Board of Commissioners.
Commissioners may ask questions of the speakers.

The Chatham County Board of Commissioners and the Chatham County Board of Education will hold a Special Joint Meeting on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the Chatham County Schools Central Services building located at 468 Renaissance Drive in Pittsboro. The meeting will be held at 6:00pm.

The purpose of the meeting is for discussion between both the Chatham County Board of Commissioners and the Chatham County Board of Education on the following topics:

Receive a presentation from Chatham Park about their development plans for Southern Village.
Receive a presentation from the Operations Research and Education Laboratory at North Carolina State University on potential school facility needs.
Receive a presentation on the Digital Inclusion Plan efforts on the education environment.

The additional purpose of the meeting will be for the Chatham County Board of Commissioners to vote on a consent agenda which includes:

Vote to approve the 2024 Tax Lien Advertisement.
Vote to approve the grant application for $417,401 with a county match of $104,350 for the Accessible Park (AP) Grant Program for Parker’s Ridge Park.
Vote to approve the sole source exemption for Allies4Outcomes for the capacity building project in the child welfare program using funds from Vaya Health and have the County Manager negotiate the contract.
Vote to approve a request by Nicolas P. Robinson, Attorney on behalf of The Conservancy Real Estate Group, LLC for a revision to the Development Schedule for Phase 1 of The Conservancy at Jordan Lake to reduce the number of lots from 322 lots to 163 lots and the reference to specific numbers of lots per phase to be deleted, located off Old US Hwy1, parcel #5233, 5504,5519, 5775, 5780, 65275, 68379, 85342, 85343, 85344, 85346, 5551, 85347, 85341, 85339, 85340, 5774, 62390, 5211, 60441, 65274, 69379, 5559, 5502, 5569, 5570, 5558, 5238, 5545.
